Uploaded and shared in Youtube by: ChristosKaralisMD — During fine needle aspiration of a pancreatic cyst using endoscopic ultrasound, one of the possible mishaps is the contamination of the remaining cystic fluid during the procedure with bacteria and the formation of an abscess. In order to minimize that risk the performing endoscopist needs to give a dose of intravenous antibiotics to the patient before the procedure usually ciprofloxacin and to try to drain as much as possible fluid out from the cyst if not all of it. The video that follows shows a 2,5 cm cyst sitting right above the portal confluence at the neck of the pancreas that was completely drained during the FNA. The cytology was consistent with pancreatic pseudocyst a result of acute pancreatitis.
