Uploaded and shared in Youtube by: rochestergeneral — 40% of end stage renal disease is caused by uncontrolled diabetes. Nephropathy can result in dialysis and need for kidney transplant. Most commonly seen in legs, feet, and hands, nephropathy can result in ulcerations and eventual amputation. 12% of new adult blindness is caused by uncontrolled diabetes. The signs and symptoms of type 2 diabetes are often preceded by prediabetes for years. Other complications include retinopathy, nephropathy and neuropathy. By understanding the pathology of both types of diabetes, nurses can better manage care and recommend treatment for diabetes patients.
